hong kong halloween 2010 HK

There are more and more nightlife choices in Hong Kong, which makes choosing a place to celebrate Halloween all the more difficult. Some clubs just go through the motions, not investing much thought into creating the right environment, while others plan elaborate decorations and entertainment.

A few weekends ago, I was walking towards Lan Kwai Fong, when I spotted something odd. In front of me, driving by slowly, was a massive truck with banners on all four sides.

The signs were advertising an upcoming event at a nearby club. The bouncers standing outside remarked that it had been driving through the neighborhood all night. Is this an effective form of advertising? (more…)

People in Hong Kong have been talking about typhoon Megi all week long. Much to the disappointment of the general working population, Megi’s now not scheduled to arrive until Saturday night, mostly bypassing Hong Kong.

What use is a typhoon, if it doesn’t get you a day off of work? People here are plenty disappointed! (more…)

Elli Rose vivi magazine model japan

Top models, Elli-Rose and Chikako Watanabe, well known to fans of the influential Japanese magazine ViVi, headlined a fashion show in Tsim Sha Tsui on Friday, October 9th. The show was organized by prominent Hong Kong retailer i.t and showcased mostly Japanese labels.

In addition to the ViVi models from Japan, local favorites such as Cara G. and Jessica C., also participated. Check out the video! (more…)

Redbull held their first Flugtag event in Hong Kong in West Kowloon on Sunday, October 10th, 2010. Despite bad weather, well over 10,000 people attended – a stunning amount given that this is the very first event of this kind in the city.

Who knew that watching people jump off a six-meter ramp and crash into the harbor is cross-cultural entertainment? ;) But there’s more to the event than the amazing faceplants. (more…)

Phillip Lim is in the middle of the video at the pause…

Celebrated fashion designer Phillip Lim made an appearance at Lane Crawford on October 7th, to host a special preview for a project called 4X3.1.

The project, which is a collaboration between Phillip Lim’s 3.1 brand and Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford, is comprised of four short films shot by four “new generation creative talents.”

The partnership with Lim is consistent with Lane Crawford’s strategy of building an alliance with every emerging star in contemporary fashion. (more…)

The artist KAWS was in Hong Kong this week to open a new art exhibition titled “Passing Through”. The location of the show is Harbour City, a sprawling complex of shopping malls in Tsim Sha Tsui.

KAWS is well known in Hong Kong for his designer toy figures and is popular with local influencer / collectors including Edison from CLOT and TK from Silly Thing.

A gigantic five-meter tall KAWS figure is currently perched outside of Harbour City, near the shopping mall’s Star Ferry entrance. (more…)
