dj spooky hong kong china rebirth nation

DJ Spooky has been a big name in New York’s avant garde music scene for almost two decades. With a steady succession of albums, collaborations, and concept projects, he has consistently pushed boundaries across various genres and media.

DJ Spooky’s film, Rebirth of a Nation is arriving in Hong Kong on October 15th, after screening at top international institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and London’s Tate Modern.

The multimedia performance, which includes a real-time remixing of the seminal film, The Birth of A Nation, (backed by a live string ensemble!) takes place on three screens simultaneously. The score, composed by DJ Spooky and originally performed by the Kronos Quartet, has gotten rave reviews. (more…)

DJ Clark Kent Kenta Loading store HK

Friday night, Brooklyn’s finest DJ Clark Kent, and Japan’s DJ Kenta take over the turntables at Likuid in Lan Kwai Fong. The event is a collaboration between two top street wear stores – Loading in Hong Kong, and Lafayette in Japan. Both have deep ties to New York City’s Hip Hop scene.

H.K.’s Loading store has built a reputation as the place to get independent brands and one-of-a-kind T shirts that you won’t find anywhere else in the city. These guys are plugged into the underground scene, and they don’t just sell Hip Hop fashion, they live it. Over the years they have held several interesting events, including live painting sessions and Hip Hop showcases. (more…)

Surf Vampires hong kong FLY HK club

The haunted house party is back! Surf Vampires Must Die features the dirtiest Surf Rock tunes from the 1960′s garage band scene, plus a few modern tracks thrown in. The music direction is equal parts psychedelic and psychotic. Just how grungey is it? Listening to the songs, it sounds as if the bands didn’t take a shower for a week and were potentially on magic mushrooms during the recording sessions. (more…)
