Canadian DJ Skratch Bastid is participating in a special showcase for Red Bull’s Thre3style competition at Volar on Thursday, March first. The Thre3style format involves combining three different genres of music, along with scratching and engaging the crowd.

The style has its roots in turntablist competitions where d.j.s compete with elaborate routines, creatively assembling bits and pieces of songs to make something brand new. Thre3style is even more complicated as it addresses a weakness of turntablism – engaging dance floors.

Many turntablist routines are so technically complex, that they can only be truly understood and appreciated by fellow turntablists. Thre3style is a competition that includes a more audience-friendly format, where d.j.s are also expected to rock the party-going crowd.
