Several people have told me that you can judge the current state of Hong Kong’s economy by the vibrancy of the yearly Christmas displays. Entire sections of the city are draped with multiple-story lights in celebration of Christmas and Chinese New Year.

I had to d.j. on Saturday night, but before my set I ran by a special event for the 25th anniversary of Nike’s Air Force 1 sneaker line. The venue was the new Star Ferry pier located on the waterfront in Hong Kong’s Central neighborhood.

Tommy also performed.

Imagine walking up to the newest hot-spot and instead of being greeted or (in some cases,) intimidated by the burly bouncer, you simply look into a small monitor tucked neatly into a wall. As you gaze down, following the instructions on a small screen, a computer instantly analyzes your face, and decides whether to authorize entry – thereby sliding the door open, or reject you.

This is the technology in place at the entrance of HALO, a brand new ultra-exclusive lounge located slightly off of the main nightlife area in Hong Kong’s Central neighborhood. (more…)
