New Year’s Eve in Hong Kong doesn’t need to be a boring, amateur night out anymore. This year there are three parties that cater to people with sophisticated taste in dance music.
Each of the three parties offers multiple DJs with a variety of sounds. Here’s a quick rundown:
Alive Not Dead’s New Year’s Eve at Armani Prive
We’ve written about this one previously. It boasts three stages, diverse music, and eleven DJs spread out over the course of the night. Headliners include Japan’s DJ Ta-Shi playing a special video / DJ set, along with music by Hong Kong actor Sam Lee, who is known for his uptempo party-rocking tunes. The night also features Hong Kong’s top M.C., Mastamic performing along with eight other DJs. The location at Armani Prive is ideal – it’s in the heart of Central, yet outside the hassle zone of Lan Kwai Fong which is blocked off by the police.
Ticket price is $600 HKD if you purchase in advance, which includes two drinks and access to all three rooms of entertainment. Otherwise it’s $800 HKD at the door! F.O.B. at XXX
A second choice for ringing in the new year is with the F.O.B. crew at the new XXX, which is located in Shek Tong Tsui, on the far Western side of Hong Kong Island. The newer space is nicer than the first XXX and includes a full bar and much improved bathrooms. The music for the night is provided by a collection of the F.O.B. all-stars: DJ Yasmin, Blackfoot Pheonix, and Eve, plus Kid Fresh, and Subcoat. For full details go to the F.O.B. Facebook page.

Magnetic Soul BASS party
A third choice is the Bass party brought to you by Magnetic Soul, one of Hong Kong’s Drum N Bass crews. This one features a set by Russian Drum N Bass maestro ENEI along with sets by Saiyan, Muggsy, Shelf-Index, Phaeton, Sert, Rolec and more. The venue is a war-games facility deep on Kowloon side. The ticket price is $150 HKD, or $100 for full time students with I.D.
