Ne-Yo at Cubic!

A chart topper and three-time Grammy award winner, Ne-Yo is known for huge hits including “Miss Independent”, “So Sick,” “Closer” and “Mad”. As an artist, Ne-Yo walks the line between Pop and R&B. He’s also a top songwriter for other artists, penning number ones for both Rihanna and Beyonce.

Check out our exclusive interview with Ne-Yo.

1. From what we’ve read, your Mom is part Chinese. Were you exposed to any Chinese culture as a kid growing up? (Or do you have any favorite Chinese foods?)
– My dad is part Chinese. I love all Asian culture…not all the food though. LOL!

2. You grew up partially in Las Vegas. Are you curious to check out Macau’s style of casinos?
– I love casinos! I’m a very frugal gambler however.

3. Of all the places you’ve performed and traveled to, have there ever been any spots where you’ve felt truly at home, or like you wanted to just stay?
– I feel most at home on stage. No matter where that stage may be.

4. What’s your ritual with touring? For example, do you have any special foods or drinks to keep yourself in shape on the road? Or do you do 50 push-ups right before going on stage? Any kind of routines?
– I work out as much as I can. No real rituals tho. I love what I do. Don’t need much outside help or aids to do it.

5. Do you have synesthesia – the ability to see music in colors and textures? Most people who have it refer to making music as ‘painting pictures’. (Mary J Blige and Pharrell are two examples of people who have it.)
– YEAH.

6. As a father and a talented singer-songwriter, do you ever feel disappointed about the lyrical content of modern music? For example, there’s a huge difference between today’s lyrics which constantly reference alcohol brands, money, and luxury brands – with the songwriting of someone like Stevie Wonder. Any thoughts?
– I’m not really disappointed. Times change. It’s about what’s real to me and how I portray music. I choose to keep it a touch classier. But everyone is entitled to express in their own way.

7. You’ve written songs for and performed with many brilliant artists. Is there anyone in history that you wish you could have written a song for, or performed together with? (Anyone dead or alive?)
– Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder.

Ne-Yo is a veteran performer and you can expect a full show at Cubic.

Dada Life

Dada Life are a pair of Swedish DJs and producers who also happen to be pranksters. They’ve had their passports confiscated on several occasions for trying to found their own virtual country! When they’re allowed to travel, they play continually at the top EDM festivals around the world.

Their sound is big room EDM, which is perfect for Cubic!

Check out their live set at the recent Electric Zoo festival.

Have a listen to the Dada Life Soundcloud for more samples of their music.

Afrojack

Afrojack is a mainstay of the EDM movement. Going back several years he helped develop and popularize the current sound to audiences around the world. His original productions and remixes feature a who’s who of dance floor superstars in the Electro / EDM scene including Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Sidney Samson, R3hab, and Martin Garrix to name just a few.
