House of Vans takes over Pier 4!

The annual House of Vans event is a smorgasbord of music, art, skateboarding and creativity. Taking place October 16th through 18th, the party follows events in Xi’An, Guangzhou, Beijing and Seoul, and reinforces Vans reputation as a new powerhouse in the sneaker world.

Vans has been steadily raising its profile in the region over the last eight years, and House of Vans is a large scale celebration of the brand’s commitment to giving back and maintaining a grassroots connection to the community. The event, which includes concerts, DJs, workshops, live art and even a half-pipe set up on the rooftop of Lamma Island ferry pier, has something for everyone.

A new addition this year is a street market selling products from cool indie designers that share the same creative spirit. This ties in very well with the reality of Hong Kong, where people like to shop literally everywhere. It also satiates the city’s appetite for weekend markets, which have been showing up all over H.K. the last few years.

Pop-ups by Galaxy Tattoo and Edwin Barber Shop will also augment the many other attractions.

Equally important is the art segment that features workshops on creating a skatedeck chair (overseen by Start From Zero,) as well as customizing Vans sneakers with Mainland artists Panda and Lin Wen Xin. Live painting curated by HKwalls will also take place.

Music at House of Vans Hong Kong 2015

Music is one of the biggest, if not the biggest drivers of the House of Vans event. The line-up is a balancing act that blends local favorites such as LMF, with hot regional bands from Australia (Gang of Youths,) and Taiwan (Macbeth). Also in the mix is Hong Kong all-girl band GDJYB.

The foreign talents include new school Hip Hop performers Vince Staples and Kari Faux.

LMF have been a perennial favorite of brands looking for a group that embodies the local indie spirit fused with the attitude of youth culture. LMF’s members are skaters and their connection to the brand is authentic. Hong Kong is in short supply of bands with an outsider image, yet that make respected, (and popular) music.

Vans has put together a selection of ten up-and-coming local bands to play on Saturday and Sunday during the open to the public sessions starting from 2pm. The bands will play from 2 to 6pm on the 17th, and from 2 to 8pm on the 18th.

Check out the details of the music line-up and schedule. Unfortunately, the tickets to the night sessions at House Of Vans went fast, and are currently unavailable. However, the public sessions during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday are still open, and free.

Night sessions on October 16th and 17th from 7pm onwards will be open for ticket holders only, other House Of Vans events are open to public without tickets. Please consult the event website for details!
