It used to be that great d.j.s only came from a small number of cities around the world. Likewise, you could only hear cool club music when you went out in a handful of metropolitan areas. The reason for this was because music distribution was limited by geographic location. If you weren’t based in a major city, you simply couldn’t get your hands on all the music that was out at the time.
In today’s wired world however, that’s just no longer the case.
With the rise of the Internet, people who share the same sensibilities have been able to connect, collaborate, and thrive internationally. Music in particular has been freed from its distribution limitations and top d.j.s now spring forth from all corners of the globe. The adoption of broadband, mp3s, social networks, podcasts, and music blogs has accelerated this phenomenon.
Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy, a monthly night that brings cutting-edge dance music to Hong Kong is a direct beneficiary of this trend. The organizer’s are d.j.s who have tapped into this international scene and transported dance music’s rising stars from far flung locations to Hong Kong.
On February 6th, Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy brings in d.j. Drastik from Canada and d.j. Suivez from Switzerland. Take a moment to consider the new international state of club music: Kid Fresh, a German d.j. / promoter, and d.j. Enso, an American, bring one d.j. from Switzerland and another from Canada that were recently featured in a music blog from Sweden! The saying “it ain’t where you from, it’s where you at” has never been more accurate!
D.j. Pat Drastik and d.j. Suivez both have new mixes out that can help you get a feel for the type of music they play. You can download both mixes free from the d.j.s MySpace pages here and here. Recommended!
