Pat Lee comic artist draw

At 9pm this Sunday, comic artist Pat Lee will be drawing a piece at Racks billiards club. The last time Pat Lee did a live painting there was a major turnout - even in the rain! That location is now the current home of the new Diesel flagship store on Queens Road.

Insight clothing company HK

Australian clothing label Insight hosted an event at the Fringe Club last Thursday. Though I was committed to watching the new Indiana Jones movie later that night, I stopped by for a quick look.

The ground floor of the Fringe Club is divided into two parts. It has a gallery space as you walk in and then a larger room for live music on the other side. The event took place in the live music room. The hallway leading to the music space was decorated in draped black and gray rags making for a haunted house type of feeling. Inside, the area was decked out in an absurdist style complete with touches like a bird cage containing a severed hand and a small toy dinosaur! (more…)

Coach leather store China H

Sometimes I really can’t believe the wave of talent coming through the city. This week is a case in point. In two days alone Hong Kong will host DJ Stretch Armstrong, Eli Escobar, Tittsworth, Pase Rock, Amanda Blank, guitar player John Mayer, DJ AM, Uffie, Busy P, Sebastian, Feadz, DJ Mehdi, Krazy Baldhead, and So Me.

While two of the events are private, invitation-only affairs (to commemorate flagship store openings by Diesel and Coach,) the Volar / Ed Banger event at HITEC is open to the public via ticket sales.

Walking through the MTR station in Central last week, the walls of the Lan Kwai Fong exit featured multiple posters for the event.

Advertising in this way is a rare move not normally associated with club music. But then again, this is no ordinary one-d.j. show! (more…)

Pecha Kucha Hong Kong

You think it’s something cute and furry? Well, you thought wrong! Simply put, a Pecha Kucha night is a gathering where creative professionals present their work in a casual environment, following a specific, concise, presentation form. The system was hatched in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham for young designers to discuss their work without getting bogged down or boring the audience. The rigid format allows for only twenty slides, each with a time limit of twenty seconds. This gives the speaker roughly six minutes and forty seconds to get their points across. O.K., so what does ‘pecha kucha’ actually mean? (more…)

best restaurants Hong Kong

There are several reasons why I normally don’t do restaurant reviews. Stated simply, personal tastes differ; standards differ; individual dining experiences may be different; and restaurants can be inconsistent. I don’t want the reputation of Hong Kong Hustle in doubt because the chef was out sick the night that you decided to visit, or you ordered an obscure dish that the restaurant doesn’t specialize in. But I’m willing to break my rule on the rare occasion that I discover someplace truly special. The newly relaunched Chez Moi restaurant on 10 Arbuthnot Road in Central is one of those cases. (more…)
