Volar Ed Banger concert Hong

I recently asked myself this question after attending two parties where the crowds congregated in the VIP sections rather than catch the major acts who were performing on stage. Is the draw of perceived status more enticing than hearing current international acts? Do people in Hong Kong care about music? (more…)

Kapok Hong Kong art

Kapok, the quirky boutique that carries everything from Kitsune music and candles to Japanese art books, has hosted a steady stream of art and cultural events since its inception in 2006. Tucked away on sleepy Dragon Road in Tin Hau (close to Victoria Park,) it’s relocating to St. Francis Yard near Star Street after July. But before they move to their new digs, they’re having one final exhibit. (more…)

Monsieur Chatte Hong Kong

Strolling through Sheung Wan the other day I happened upon a curious sight. On a block known for its crumbling old buildings, a brand new store has arrived. The tasteful look of the shop (a wooden facade with several stories of flags flapping in the wind,) was unmistakably French, as was the name, Monsieur Chatté. What are they selling? (more…)

Muji store Hong Kong

Obviously I don’t leave town much, so it came as quite a surprise to discover a mini-Muji store in the departure hall of the Hong Kong International Airport recently. Muji, the Japanese retailer, is famous for their high-quality, minimalist goods. Their selections are wide, ranging from clothing and stationary, to household items and snacks. My first impression was to write it off as an over-aggressive expansion. What are they doing opening up a shop at the airport? (more…)

To celebrate the opening of their flagship store on Queens Road and the launch of the Black Gold collection, Diesel threw a massive event on Wednesday night in West Kowloon. The fashion show and party was just one in a series of huge events to take place in the area. Arriving by chartered bus, guests were treated to a glimpse at Friday’s venue set to commemorate the opening of the Coach flagship store.

Diesel’s lineup featured a lengthy fashion show and a dream-team of musical talent. How did the night turn out? (more…)
