Volar DI beach party Hong

Tai Long Wan beach wasn’t initially deserted on Saturday. The campers who were looking for a little escape from the city had their world rocked when the party crew descended en masse on their tranquility. They soon packed up and moved elsewhere. A few other small groups of boaters were on the long isolated beach, but soon they too were vastly out numbered.

What am I talking about? (more…)

Quiksilver Roxy bikini part

Thursday night I stopped by Volar to check out an event called Love Gaarden Paradise 2. (Why they spell garden with two a’s is beyond me.) Guests who entered the Roxy / Quiksilver event received paper leis in keeping with the night’s Hawaii-style theme.

I arrived just as the fashion show commenced. The segment took place in the club side of Volar and the space was totally packed. As usual, the swim wear section was a big hit with the girls in the crowd, who for some reason are more raucous than guys are at this type of event. As the male models came out shirtless, there were squeals of excitement! (more…)

Eric Haze full circle art

The aptly titled exhibition signifies a return to roots in more ways than one. Artist Eric Haze, who first made his mark (pun intended) on the trains and streets of New York, recently moved back to the city after many years in California. On a second level, the title reflects a return to the origins of his fame, the basics of hand drawn letters and their accompanying stylistic accents.

On display are the traits that allowed Haze to set himself apart from the petty scrawls and rise to the monarchy of New York City’s graffiti underworld.

The magnificence in Eric Haze: Full Circle lies in the details. (more…)

Jun Takahashi Sound Fury pu

Noted Japanese clothing designer Jun Takahashi, co-founder of the revered brand Undercover was in town recently to celebrate the third anniversary of his Hong Kong store. The event, billed as “The Sound and the Fury,” perhaps should have been titled, “The Sound and the Furry”! Glancing at the invitation for the night, there was a drawing of a peculiar creature in a gown with the words ‘live doll operation’ listed as part of the entertainment for the evening. I was immediately curious! (more…)

DJ Sara Ryusei Japan child

I saw a video of these two tots in action about a year ago. In addition to their height, it seems that their celebrity status has been growing. Osaka Japan natives d.j. Sara and Ryusei recently played the after-party for the American Grammy awards! The pair, d.j. Sara age 9, and d.j. Ryusei age 7, are set to take the stage at Dragon-i on Saturday, July 26th. They will be joined by noted turntablist D-Styles.

Will the duo need special booster chairs to reach the d.j. equipment? For a taste of what’s to come, have a look at a video of the two in action! (more…)

Coach party Hong Kong

(Please note: due to an overabundance of events last month, I’m still catching up on parties that took place a while back. Better late than never?)

American leather brand Coach held a splashy event for their flagship store that opened at the end of May. Guests were shuttled from the prominent new shop situated at the most high-traffic crossing point in Central, to the venue, a gigantic structure assembled in West Kowloon.

Though Louis Vuitton pioneered the mega-event in Hong Kong, other brands are beginning to flex their muscles on a similar scale. (more…)
