A new exhibit by Kirk Cheng titled “Circle of Life” explores the endless variety of color and texture found in nature by creating works composed of living flowers and plants.
Opening at Above Second Gallery on Saturday, July 4th, the floral artist creates ensembles that showcase nature’s inherent traits, presented in an art gallery setting.
Topiary, which is the technique of manipulating and shaping plants, has existed for nearly two thousand years. Notable contemporary artists that have created living sculptures include art world superstar Jeff Koons, who created a work titled “Split Rocker” comprised of 27,000 living flowers in 2000.
When you stop to think about it, the patterns, complexities, and colors that exist in nature are awe inspiring. This exhibition will trace the full cycle of a flower’s life, from blossom until decay.
We’re excited to see how Above Second Gallery transforms into a greenhouse!
