Ting Tings Hong Kong

No, we’re not talking about Ting Ting, the notorious pool shark at Racks, we’re talking about The Ting Tings, the duo behind the smash hit ‘Great D.J.‘! The two person band will be performing in Hong Kong on Tuesday, February 3rd. The venue is HITEC in Kowloon Bay. Doors open at 8pm. Ticket prices for the concert are $380 and $580 HKD.

If you’re not familiar with their sound, The Ting Tings play a very contemporary mix of catchy Rock and Electronic music, but more on the warmer side. Before signing with Sony Music, I read that the duo were famous for rocking parties. If that’s truly the case, I’m anticipating that they will be very good live.

I wrote about The Ting Tings once before here. For more information, check out the Ting Tings website.

Pat Drastik Suivez Hong Kon

It used to be that great d.j.s only came from a small number of cities around the world. Likewise, you could only hear cool club music when you went out in a handful of metropolitan areas. The reason for this was because music distribution was limited by geographic location. If you weren’t based in a major city, you simply couldn’t get your hands on all the music that was out at the time.

In today’s wired world however, that’s just no longer the case. (more…)

Vivienne Westwood store Chi

In 2004, London’s prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum launched a retrospective on British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Titled, A Life In Fashion, the ambitious show traced her clothing collections over an impressive three decades.

In December, Hong Kong property company Swire brought the show to ArtisTree, a new cultural space in Quarry Bay. Stopping by last Thursday, I had a chance to see Vivienne Westwood’s diversity as a designer as well as glimpse her influence on modern fashion. (more…)

Shit sandwich Racks Hong Ko

The party with the dirty name is back this Wednesday, January 21st. The invites to Sh*t Sandwich are some of Hong Kong’s most creative and are usually hilarious.

The newest flier is a nod to two performers who had a dramatic rise and fall in the 90’s, M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice. (Yes, that’s d.j.s Dra and D-Heezy morphed into the two stars.)

Racks is a fun, casual place with an international crowd. Sh*t Sandwich is one of those nights that takes music lovers on a trip down memory lane (sometimes to scary places!) (more…)

DJ Stretch Armstrong Volar

Because his name was synonymous with New York Hip Hop for so long, to this day, DJ Stretch Armstrong has difficulty escaping being typecast as purely a Hip Hop d.j. (more…)

Star Ferry Hong Kong HK TST 1

Aside from a walk on The Peak, taking a ride on the Star Ferry is another must while visiting Hong Kong.

If you’re a tourist on a tight schedule, chances are you’ll only be able to take the ride once. When it’s time to board you need to know which seats will give you the best view and photo opportunities. Sitting on the wrong side, in the wrong place will squander the trip. (more…)

MTR fare saver Hong Kong

Apparently to some people it is. Five days a week during Hong Kong’s lunch hour, a long line forms along the escalator walkway directly above Hollywood Road. On some days the line snakes all the way down the steps to the nearest exit at Lyndhurst Terrace. A sign of the times? Nope, this has been going on for over two years! What’s the draw? (more…)

Hong Kong Rave must die

I just discovered some old photos from a rave party I attended eight or nine years ago in Hong Kong. Looking through them now I can see why the scene had to come to an end. (more…)

Ip Man Hong Kong movie film

How many kicks and punches did I witness in the last week? Probably more than most people see in a lifetime! Donnie Yen’s Ip Man, and Tony Jaa’s Ong Bak 2 share certain qualities, but weak action isn’t one of them! (more…)

Kele Okereke Bloc Party DJ

Trust me, Saturday night at Volar is going to be rocking! The lead singer and guitar player from Bloc Party, Kele Okereke is playing a special d.j. set. If you haven’t heard of Bloc Party, they are simply one of the best bands to come out in the last ten years. Their music is fast, catchy and will drive the dance floor berserk! (more…)
