Fashion designer Agnès B. was in town to celebrate the opening of a sprawling new complex made up entirely of boutiques bearing her name. Featuring a patchwork of clothing stores as well as a cafe, a restaurant, a chocolate shop, a florist and a travel shop, it takes up an entire wing of the IFC shopping center. Named La Loggia, it’s a major addition to the mall and an interesting new retail concept.

Nike NSW shop Hong Kong

Nike held a block party on Friday night to celebrate the opening of their first NSW store in Hong Kong. ‘NSW’ (Nike Sports Wear,) is the brand’s finely crafted line that exceeds athletic apparel and ventures into cutting-edge fashion. Until now they’ve relied on local power houses such as: D-mop, I.T., Lane Crawford and Juice to distribute their high-end lines. With NSW, the company is a establishing a retail foothold for their premium collection.

The event drew a large crowd as people made their way around normally bustling Causeway Bay on a Friday night. The atmosphere was genuinely festive as staff dressed in sports uniforms and costumes walked through the crowd handing out everything from cotton candy to beers! (more…)

Hong Kong nightlife HK club

As the turmoil in the financial markets began to spread to Hong Kong, someone put up a large wheat-paste graphic with the message “Game Over” on Pottinger Street (the old stone steps between Wellington Street and Hollywood Road) in Central. The image features the logo from the board-game Monopoly (a man in tuxedo and top hat,) with the words ‘Game Over’ below it. The rather wry graffiti attempts to announce the end of an era, but walking around this weekend, the city’s bars and clubs appeared to be bustling. In fact, the crowds spilling out onto Wyndham Street over the last few nights were much deeper than usual.

This isn’t the first time the city’s nightlife has been threatened. (more…)

Homebase Hong Kong club HK

Late night / early morning nightlife institution Home Base recently relocated to a basement just a few doors down from its previous location. The long running club occupied a niche as a sort of last stop for a night out in Central.

After making the rounds in the neighborhood, it was the only place still open when major clubs such as Volar, Dragon-i and Drop closed for the night. Prime time at Home Base would typically be after 5 am and continue well past dawn. From the inside you couldn’t determine what time of night it was. The dark atmosphere and comfortable lounge seating made it easy to lose track of time - or simply pass out! (more…)
